Five Rules of Style for the Business-Casual Workplace Dressing for work used to be pretty easy: a suit and tie for men, and a skirt suit or pantsuit for women. Then came casual Fridays and Hawaiian shirt day. Todays business-casual workplace (where, according to Gallup, just 6 percent of American men bother to wear a necktie) would seem to be a world without rules. Of course, there are rules, theyre just more subtle which makes them even harder to follow. If you think a jeans OK dress code means that no ones judging your appearance, think again. Theres a big difference between dark jeans with a belt and faded jeans that hang a little too low and it could mean the difference between being taken seriously and being taken for granted. Retailers
Specialty retailers are using online social networking sites for a variety of uses. Customers are able to shop and create their own original styles. You could definitely tell that people were not shopping as much this Black Friday. In previous years the line ups for Best Buy doorbuster deals had always been ridiculous. People used to line up at 3 am to be ready for the 5 am open. This year people just starting lining up at 4 am and the line was still not that long. There was no rush to make any purchase this year even with all the deals. -Anonymous, Best Buy |

I find it a little obscure since the economy is not doing so well, yet the sales from Black Friday increased by 3% this year from last year. -Susan |

Companies such as Marshall's and TJ Maxx are using this recession to their advantage by broadcasting commercials that advertise that larger retailers are noticing the excess inventory which allows these discount stores to pull in customers with their low-priced items. -Jannet, Massachusetts |

It sucks. The government has to provide people with more of an income so that people are not worried about saving money. I have listed my house on the market and it has been listed for 3 months now - I have not received one reasonable offer. About 6 months ago I could have sold it for over my asking price. Likewise, with retail; people are not spending any money on any extras and walking through malls you can see how empty they are, the sales that every store is having and yet they are still having trouble attracting people into their stores. -John, Detroit |
